A mere five years ago, the undead invasion of the Valenpoint Peninsula took most of the region completely by surprise. The two great cities in the Peninsula, as well as several smaller lordships, sought out any means to defend themselves, and for a great many that meant hiring on mercenaries of a nature they wouldn’t ordinarily consider. Thus, Doruk came to Valenpoint.
Arriving from Northern Faytan with his own warship and an oversized crew of goblins and hobgoblins, Doruk took a terrible toll from the undead. His ship was small enough that he could sail up rivers to assail the undead anywhere and everywhere on the peninsula, and his clan was disciplined enough to launch daring assaults deep inside undead territory, striking at the sentient undead who actually controlled the hordes. While Josselyn fought bravely on the frontline, Doruk and his clan fought with cunning and earned just as many important victories. They were paid handsomely for the risks they took, and when they were far enough from prying eyes, they indulged in a touch of looting and pillaging on the side. The dead and those who fled didn’t need their earthly possessions anymore anyway.
Then the Samaran Empire’s legion arrived, and things took a sudden change for the worst. With such a strong force defending their city, Spinal saw no reason to keep goblinoid mercenaries in the payroll. One day, messengers and payments simply stopped coming, and for a few days Doruk wondered if they weren’t simply being killed on the way. When he moved closer to the city, however, his clan was attacked by an outlying Samaran patrol.
Thus, it was time to make the best of a bad situation. The very next day, Doruk started to attack a broader choice of targets. He still fought the undead when he absolutely had to, yes, but his ship could sail all around the Peninsula, as well as up its two major riverways. Since then he has raided dozens of outlying towns, and utterly destroyed several hamlets and outlying farmlands. Anyone who isn’t strong enough to defend themselves is a worthy target, the attacks come suddenly and with terrible ferocity, during raids they typically take anything that isn’t bolted down, to later sell in Faytan.
