Symbol: A Pentagon
Alignment: True Neutral
Portfolio: The Samaran Empire
Domains: Nobility, Strength, Glory, War
Favored Weapon: Longspear
Divine Rank: 18
The Samaran People are visitors from beyond Eos, and so are their gods. The millennia they spent in Eos, and especially the centuries of expansion as the empire grew, has caused gradual changes in the pantheon, as some deities merged, others split and some faded and were forgotten. Today, the Samaran Pantheon is its own entity, worshiped primarily in the Empire itself, or by those of that ethnicity.
The Samaran Pantheon is a complete worldview, one shaped by imperialism, conquest and a fear and reverence for the wild power of the strongest emotions.
MARS, GOD OF WAR
Symbol: Spear
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Portfolio: War, strife, conquest, empire
Domains: Destruction, War, Protection
Favored Weapon: Shortspear
Divine Rank: 15
The highest god in the Samaran Pantheon, and one that receives a significant share of all devotion and worship, Mars is seen not only as a conqueror, but also a civilizer. The bringing of Samaran knowledge, infrastructure and culture is seen as a great gift and a wondrous thing, while the wars that often precede it are merely a price paid in blood for the blessings earned.
Although tempered by a focus on expansion, rather than wanton destruction, Mars is nonetheless a fearsome god known for his wild passions, dangerous tempers and the taking of many, many lovers. If some versions of the myths are to be believed, the Samaran Pantheon almost comes to resemble a harem, with Mars at its center.
ADIRE, GODDESS OF LOVE
Symbol: Seashell
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Portfolio: Love, Beauty
Domains: Chaos, Charm Good
Favored Weapon: Dagger
Divine Rank: 13
The goddess of romantic love, sexual desire and physical beauty, Adire embodies those ideals. Although a great deal of emphasis is placed on the enduring love of a married couple, Adire is nonetheless a wild, unrestrained goddess who exults and extols others to explore their passions and whims.
ERIDA, GODDESS OF HATE
Symbol: Ceremonial dagger
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Portfolio: Hate, Vengeance
Domains: Chaos, Evil, Retribution
Favored Weapon: Dagger
Divine Rank: 13
A shadowy figure, rarely openly worshiped but always present as a source of fear and wonder, Erida seems at once an integral part of the Samaran Pantheon and also a strange, invading force. She embodies the pure, uncontrolled passion of hatred, and is frequently invoked by the wronged and the wicked. In stories she is often portrayed as an unstoppable force of reckoning, often the bringer of a tragic hero’s downfall as she announces their failings, and then strikes them down for them.
CERES, GODDESS OF AGRICULTURE
Symbol: Wreath of Grain
Alignment: Neutral Good
Portfolio: Agriculture, Seasons
Domains: Earth, Plant, Protection, Planning
Favored Weapon: Sickle
Divine Rank: 11
A goddess bound to the flow of time, the changing of seasons and the dance of the sun and stars, Ceres is the gentlest and most mystical of all gods in the Samaran Pantheon, her clergy is famous for their many mysteries and soothsayers. Above all, she is a goddess of the world’s eternal cycles, and through those the mistress of agriculture.
Of all Samaran deities, Ceres is the one who finds most worshipers outside the Samaran people, several shrines and temples devoted to her can be found in lands where the other gods of the pantheon are absent. Some suspect that in time she may join the Triumvirate or The Twins, leaving her origin behind much as the sun advances through the constellations.
FORTUNE, LADY OF FATE
Symbol: Pentagram
Alignment: True Neutral
Portfolio: Luck
Domains: Luck, Protection, Travel, Trickery
Favored Weapon: Short Sword
Divine Rank: 8
There are few clerics of Fortune, but almost every person has at one time felt her touch in their lives. A deity of duality, she embodies both the good luck that can guide one to greatness or save one’s life, or the bad luck that can bring down even the greatest of men and women. Those devoted to her offer quiet but frequent prayer, requesting the former, and warding off the later.
Fortune is also famous as the weaver of fate, using her dual gift of luck and misfortune to guide events in the world. Though often portrayed as a goddess of whimsical and unpredictable demeanor, her few priests are quick to point out that there is a reason behind every one of her decisions, and that it all ultimately comes together into her plan for the multiverse.
