Post 1: Overall Rules Post 2: New Spells and Powers Why does this House Rule exist? We already have Divine and Arcane magic, with several variants within each (spontaneous casters, prepared casters, etc.). There is no need for a third form of magic, it is redundant. However, having another supernatural force, a thing that exists entirely outside the realm of magic can be interesting: it hints at the fact that what we know about the multiverse is just a tip of the iceberg, hinting at more and deeper mysteries. Additionally, classic D&D lore which is used in Valen has these two sources of power as separate, and this has been integrated into the setting’s current state as well as its history. Psionics and MagicPsionics and Magic are separate forces, with a separate power-source, different operation and different rules. The two interact with each other only indirectly: the effects of a power or spell can influence each other, but the powers and spells do not directly alter each other in any way. This has several implications: Magic-dead zones and wild magic zones do not affect psionics in any way. Similarly, areas and locations that influence psionics do not influence magic; Spell Resistance and Power Resistance are two separate special qualities. Some creatures that have one also have the other; Psionics and magic cannot counterspell each other, nor can they interact directly; The normal Detection and Dispelling spells and powers do not interact, but look below under New Spells and Powers.

NEW SPELLS Spells do not directly interact with psionics, but early elven wizards learned the hard way that they needed ways to detect and counteract these powers. These spells are clumsy affairs, detecting faint emanations given off by the presence of psionic powers, or attempting to nullify these effects through brute force. They do not directly interact with psionics or with the mind of manifesters.
Detect Psionics Level bard 1, cleric 1, druid 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
This spell functions like Detect Magic, except it detects psionic auras instead.
Dispel Psionics Level bard 4, cleric 4, druid 4, sorcerer/wizard 4
This spell functions like Dispel Magic, except it affects Psionics instead.
Greater Dispel Psionics Level cleric 7, druid 7, sorcerer/wizard 7
This spell functions like Greater Dispel Magic, except it affects Psionics instead.
NEW POWERS Psionic Powers do not directly interact with magic, but psionicists long ago learned how to manipulate psionics in such a way as to grant their bodies the ability to sense magic, or to forcibly suppress magical effects. These powers do not interact with spells directly, instead with their effects upon the physical world.
Detect Magic (Psionic) Level psion/wilder 1, psychic warrior 1
This power functions like Detect Psionics, except it affects Magic instead.
Dispel Magic (Psionic) Level psion/wilder 4
This power functions like Dispel Psionics, except it affects Magic instead.
