Celaria is seen by many as the mightiest nation born from the empire’s decline. Even during the empire’s apex, their hold over the region was only tenuous: the local kings had accepted vassalage to the empire, offering armies and tribute, but retained their privileges and almost unrestricted rulership of their lands. Although centuries of being subject to the empire had a strong effect on the nation’s culture, they were nonetheless still a proud and largely independent kingdom, which broke away from the Samarans within weeks of the fall of the Empire’s capital. Their strength and the example they set played a large part in the rapid liberation of much of Eryx, and all of Faytan.
The Griffinheart Dynasty has ruled over Celaria for five centuries, despite disputes between branches of the same family and several attempts by other highborn houses to supplant them. Each time, the Griffinhearts managed to hold onto their rule, and in most cases emerged stronger from the contest. The family’s royal crest is a griffon, a symbolism that is claimed to go back to tribal times millennia ago. The royal family plays a large part in keeping the nation’s tradition of griffon-taming alive.
Set in the difficult, rugged terrain of Eryx' southeast coast between Spinal and Myrrean, the many mountains and hills of the nation are home to a great diversity of flying creatures, from griffons to pegasi, and some even claim a few young dragons lair in the more distant peaks. Though many of these creatures are wild, just as many are bred and tamed by Celarian families with generations of experience with the creatures. Every Celarian subject is proud of their nation’s great sky-cavalry, composed of ranks upon ranks of armoured riders on flying magical beasts.
