Character Creation is recommended, but not enforced. If you do create a character, copy the template in the Character Profiles page and post a new thread with your character’s name.
If you do not create a character, moderators and admins will adjudicate stats and abilities for your character, balancing their power-level to be equivalent to every other starting character in the role-play. Note that it is impossible to develop your character in Valen beyond this starter level without posting a character profile.
As you play in Valen you will be granted experience, which can level your character up as per normal in tabletop games.
Characters may be natives of Eos (The setting’s world), or visitors from other worlds or planes. If you are playing a native, be sure to choose a native homeland and race, as defined in the Lore forum.
Worship of gods not present in the setting will not yield powers for characters with a divine power source (such as Clerics, Paladins, Druids, etc.). You may find a list of gods in the Lore forum. Worship of abstract concepts and beliefs is accepted, but subject to moderator approval.
Knowing Pathfinder is not mandatory for participation. You can request assistance from the Storyteller, or even request that a character sheet be done for you from scratch, all you need to do is give information on what your character is like and what they can do.
For those who know D&D or Pathfinder, the reference documents to assist with character creation can be drawn from two pages:
Ability Scores are generated through point purchase, with a 20-point pool. All characters have a starting wealth of up to 10,500 GP. This may be spent in adventuring gear, earthly possessions (such as a house), hirelings and more.
Note that the Psionics rules in the second page (and only the psionics rules) supersedes and replaces the Occult Adventures parts of the basic Pathfinder Reference Document. Similarly, House Rules posted in this forum supersede and replace information in either of those two sources.
Players interested in playing unusual races should contact an admin or moderator for help in setting up the rules for the race. Once created and playtested, these new races will be added as House Rules.
