Territory: A stretch along Western Faytan (17 land hexes, 1 sea hex, 2 lake hex);
Language: Common, undercommon, draconic;
Religion: Bahamut and The Triumvirate;
Demonym: Irlesh;
Government: Dracocracy;
Population: 1.6 million, half underground;
Demographics: 50% Kobold, 40% human, 5% Goblin, 2% Half-Elves, Others 3%.
Little known to most inhabitants of Valenpoint, but to the South of Myrrean, on the shores of the Gulf of Faytan, rests the nation of Kotharilym. Founded just over a century ago, this nation has made itself a bulwark for the world, holding back the fiends who still teem and surge from the ruins of Sammarach further to the south. In this, it is partnered with Escathon, the neighboring kingdom.
Kotharilym is a dracocracy, one of very few on Eos. Ruled over by the ancient Silver Dragon Kaelitrix, who already lived in the region prior to the fall of Sammarach, and took it upon herself to defend her land and its people when the threat of the demons seemed on the cusp of flowing outwards and onto the entirety of Faytan.
There is a unique duality to Kotharilym, with much of its surface population being humans, with a smattering of a few other races who typically live alongside humans. The nation, however, does extend underground all the way to the Underdark, with a thriving population of kobolds, and a comparatively small contingent of goblins. This whole is tied together only through the brilliant leadership of Kaeilitrix, who has managed to tie this unusual nation together through trade, shared culture, religion and service in the defense of the nation. No matter how hard the Dragon Overlady tries, however, her territory is simply too vast and her people too diverse. There is little doubt that the nation would break up into numerous splinter kingdoms within a short time if she ever absented herself.
Kotharilym is bordered on the West by the Gulf of Faytan, on the East by the crusading nation of Escathon, on the North by Myrrean and the free states of northern Faytan, and to the south by the demon-overrun ruins of Sammarach. The later plays the largest part in Kotharilym’s culture. Eternal vigilance against the incursion of fiends is at the heart of the nation’s psyche, and much of its population serves or has served in some capacity in the defense against the creatures.
